What inspired you to start this business, and when did you realize it was a path you wanted to follow?
A number of years ago, I fell in love with golf while I was in South Korea. When I returned to Calgary, it was winter, and I was looking for a place to play golf. Most indoor golf places were too far from my home. That’s when I thought, “Why don’t I open one myself?” I immediately started writing a business plan, and here we are.
What do you love most about your business and the work you do?
I love creating a meaningful place for our customers to come and have fun. When they visit Go Go Golf, they enjoy golfing, mingling, eating, drinking, and having a good time. Seeing them leave happy and hearing about their great experiences makes me very happy.
How do you envision your business making a difference in your community or industry?
We provide an opportunity for people to play golf year-round, which is especially valuable in Calgary’s winter months. We have regular customers who bring their friends and family, excited to show them our place. This sense of community and the joy we bring to our customers makes a big difference.
What services or support have you received from Business Link?
When I was starting my business plan, I searched for resources on how to build a business plan and how to start a new business. Business Link came up with a wealth of resources. I received help with market research to assess the feasibility of my business idea. This was crucial because I needed to understand the market and whether there was potential in Calgary. One key strategy was improving our online presence through SEO and social media. The Canada Digital Adoption Program provided funding for this, allowing us to enhance our SEO and create more content for Instagram and Facebook. This increased our online visibility and led to more bookings.
As a small business owner, what do you love most about running your business in Alberta?
The weather in Alberta makes indoor golf a much-needed service. During the winter, you can’t golf outside unless you travel to warmer regions. Running an indoor golf business here fills that gap and provides a valuable service to the community, which we are very proud of.
